Who Benefits from Covid-19?

November 2, 2020

For most of us, COVID-19 brought fear.

For some, COVID-19 brought riches.

For the democrats, COVID-19 brought something they can blame Trump for. As if President Trump spread that virus himself, infected the people that got infected, then was lame enough to not have a vaccine ready to inoculate everybody in as short a time period as acceptable.

Thanks to COVID-19, and the shutdowns ordered by state governors, democrats can also blame Trump for a high unemployment rate and a not-so-great economy that is amazingly recovering, despite strong efforts to once again lock down the country.

For the technology industry, COVID-19 brought Zoom meetings for all. Telecommuting for countless office workers. Now, more than ever, people need the internet, tablets, smart phones, computers, whatever technology is available. Schools bought tablets for distance learning. The game consoles saw a 36.54% surge in sales.

For the pharmaceutical industry, COVID-19 brought a significant increase in sales of all kind of drugs aimed at easing tension, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and suicidal behavior. Soon, these companies will get richer selling vaccines and therapeutics aimed at “eradicating” Covid-19.

For Amazon.com, the company reported record profits in the third quarter of this year, almost three times more than the same quarter in 2019. Thank you, COVID-19, and triple thank you lock down orders!

Alcohol consumption went up by 14% for men, 17% for women during COVID-19 if we are to believe this study. Good news for breweries, wineries and distilleries! Let us drink to that! And isn’t that great news for the Big Pharma that will see a nice increase in sales of whatever drugs will be needed to treat the liver diseases that all this drinking will bring forth? Doctors will have job security for years to come!

The Media and News industry, thanks to COVID-19, isolation, and boredom saw an increase in both subscriber’s growth for Netflix and Disney Plus, and the time spent watching news. It makes sense. When the malls, restaurants, and theatres are closed, what to do with the time?

Tuesday is the last day. We will be voting to either keep in place the president we had for the past 4 years or elect a new one.

The Medias want us to elect a new President. A new president that may be too old and tired to do much of anything if elected. A president that wants to shut down the country again until the pharmaceutical companies find a cure or develop a vaccine in hope to “eradicate” a virus. While locked down, we will keep on relying on Amazon to supply our goods, and technology for our kids that will not go back to school for what may be a long while as well as for all the remote workers. We will keep on watching TV and streaming Netflix. We will drink too much. And we will take our pills to make us feel better.

As of today, some of the industries that gave money to finance Joe Biden’s campaign are:

Internet: $25,122,480
Electronic Manufacturing and Equipment: $40,347,418
TV/Movies/Music: $15,654,112
Pharmaceuticals/Health Products: $11,305,975
Health Professionals: $18,912,057
Hospitals/Nursing Homes: $$12,752,756
Printing and Publishing: $$8,723,343

Some of the top contributors are:

Asana, a project management software company: $21,932,480
Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company: $6,394,072

Am I the only one here thinking that this whole Covid-19 situation is bizarre? When is too much coincidence still only coincidence?
