I am tired of the British Royal Family saga. I don’t care for any of them. I don’t know them. I will never meet them. How will anything they do change my life? Yet, I know way too much about their shoes, hairstyles, what they do or don’t eat, their kids and their dramas. Are they supposed to be role models of some kind? I don’t see them curing cancer. I don’t see them bringing on World Peace. I don’t see them distributing their riches to the poor…
And what about the Kardashians? It all started with a not-so-glamorous tape, and the rest is history. We know everything about that family of women. They marry womanizers, drug addicts, and alcoholics. They cry and moan. They complain. They gain weight and lose it. They may, or not, have plastic surgery procedures done. They give lessons on life, despite their shortcomings. In any given neighborhood I can find duplicate Kardashians. Apart from the money they made exposing so much of themselves, they are not special. Indecent, but not special.
Where at least the Royals may still have some decorum, the Kardashians as role models are depressing.
And what about this bunch of Hollywood and Broadway performers that believe that they have so much pull that we are happy to hear their very freely given political opinions? Entertainers whose job is to amuse us are now loudly sharing their views. They should do themselves a favor and keep their thoughts private. We handsomely pay them to make us believe stories, make us laugh, make us cry, and make us forget for a short time our everyday problems. We do not pay for their hypocritical rants. How would they know what is best for us? They have millions of dollars in their bank accounts, and surely do not struggle to pay for their health insurance premiums and deductibles.
Should I mention football players here? I think not. The NFL is getting smarter. Let’s stop biting the hand that feeds, please?
Are the Kardashians, British Royals, and celebrities’ opinions even news?
What happened to news that matter? Mediocrity is all over the internet and TV screen. “Gossips of the Day” replaced “News Flash”.
As a society, we should better ourselves. We should evolve. We should get smarter. Medias have the responsibility to keep us up-to-date with what happens in the world, the country and our neighborhoods. That it takes one hour to iron one bedsheet the British Queen will sleep on is totally irrelevant.
I grew up reading and watching news that mattered. Role models were astronauts, scientists, political figures that we believed had our best interest at heart. New technological advancements were celebrated. Peace treaties were applauded. As an individual, if we wanted to matter, we had to be smarter, we had to be exceptional. As exceptional as our role models were. The “News” then made us want to do better.
Today, I am expecting to hear a kid say “I wanna be a Kardashian when I grow up!”
