Don’t Millennials “Beauty” Trends

August 31, 2020

After seeing countless articles written by millennials on the beauty dos and don’ts for aging women, I figured an aging woman’s take on millennials’ beauty trends don’ts may be in order.

Let us start with spider lashes. You know which ones I am talking about. So long and so full that the eye gets hidden behind a monstrous venomous looking spider! A night out and some long fake lashes placed here and there are one thing. But too much of a good thing, and Hello Ugly! Broom lashes are not better. Maybe worse?

Blue, vomit green, and yellow lipsticks and nail polishes.
Blue lips are a sign of low blood oxygen. Very low blood oxygen. Lethal low blood oxygen.
Vomit green… the color says it all.
Yellow spells pee, jaundice, and liver failure.
Why would these colors be considered even remotely sexy? But maybe I missed a point. Maybe individuals using these colors are trying to repeal others? If this is the case, apologies are in order, these color choices are doing an amazing job!

Nose rings. There are two types I see. The dangling round one, then the stud.

The dangling round nose ring reminds me of cows at the farm. I cannot fathom why a young pretty woman would want to look like cattle… And the cow look works only when the ring is big enough. Too small of a ring, and it looks more like buggers hanging out of the nostrils.

The stud. Am I looking at a piece of jewelry, or at a mean shiny pimple? Or a huge blackhead? And once that fashion statement gets old, what is one supposed to do with that hole, or holes, left behind?

Tattoos! Why would anyone inject toxic ink under the skin to begin with? Worse, why would anyone believe that whatever design is chosen will still be loved twenty years down the road? And what about that skin, our biggest organ, will go through dramatic changes during a lifetime. How nice will that tattoo look when wrinkles, sagging, and stretching occur?

Tattoos are really the worst! Spider lashes, you can remove and forget that you ever worn them. Nail polishes and lipsticks can go in the trashcan. Nose rings, except for the scarring, can be left behind when a new trend comes around, and the damage may be somewhat concealed. But tattoos?

Young women are the first ones to make fun of an older woman sporting a “ridiculous” tattoo. Do they want to become that laughing target in some years?

Do they want to be a laughing target today? Art is subjective. A design loved by one may be found distasteful by the other.

Why would these women reduce so drastically the impression they present to the outside world?

No matter who they will be dealing with in their lifetime, their tattoos will be judged first. Unless they are self-employed–and even then, they will risk losing good clients–this or these tattoos will seriously shrink their earning potentials. As it will shrink their choice of potential romantic mates.

Our world is overpopulated. Jobs that twenty years ago required a high school diploma is now only available to college graduates. A tattoo on the neck, or all over the legs as I see more of late, will brand a person as either having poor judgement, low intellect, or both.

Tattoos on humans were historically used for branding. They showed belonging or allegiance to a clan, a tribe, a jail. We still tattoo cattle.

Tattoos and nose rings together… livestock?
